FAQs

Please read our FAQs page for customer service information.

What does a weighted vest do?

It adds external load to everyday movement, increasing calorie burn, muscle engagement, and cardiovascular demand without changing your routine.

How do I find the right size?

Because our products are designed for walking, it is about selecting the right weight versus size.

We recommend that those new to rucking aim to carry between 5% and 10% of their current body weight to start.

3KG, 5KG & 8KG RUKVEST feature a single strap design.

11KG feature a a double strap design and a slightly larger fit.

Can I add more weight to a RUKVEST?

No, RUKVESTs come at a set weight. You can however easily increase the intensity of your workout with hills, stairs and more challenging walks. If you are looking for a weight adjustable option, check out our RUKSAK which can be adjusted in 1KG increments.

What materials are your products made of?

RUKVEST is a lycra and weighted gel technology, meaning that the weight is in the material of the vest, no added weights are required, quality KMA buckles are used on our vests.

The Lycra fabric used in RUKVEST production does not contain Benzothiazole or its derivatives

Do you offer product warranties?

RUKVEST comes with a 12 month warranty.

Are your products environmentally friendly?

All our rucking products are designed with quality, durability and the environment in mind.

All materials used in the manufacturing of our rucking products are selected for their quality and eco credentials.

How can I contact customer support?

Our team is available via email at team@ruksak.com during Aussie business hours.

How do I clean my RUKVEST?

When needing to clean your RUKVEST or RUKSAK we recommend a short 5-10min soak in a tub with mild washing detergent. We use a wetsuit wash which is antibacterial.

Then hang to dry.

As your RUKVEST gear is heavier when wet you'll need to hang it on a balustrade, ladder or flat on an outdoor surface (towel on the ground in the sun). Don't hang it on the washing line :)

If it is just needing a quick wipe over then antibacterial wipes are great also.

Ensure your RUK gear is fully dry before packing away.

Is RUKVEST suitable for someone with osteopenia?

Yes. RUKVEST is recommended for bone health when combined with dynamic exercise and medical guidance. The even weight distribution and comfort design make it ideal for functional movement. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise program.

What makes RUKVEST different from other weighted vests?

RUKVEST uses proprietary weighted gel technology where the iron sand and gel compound form the core of the vest itself - not added weights. This creates: even weight distribution front and back, natural movement and posture, maximum comfort for extended wear, and durability.

How often should I wear RUKVEST for best results?

For overall health and strength benefits, aim for 3-4 sessions per week, 20-45 minutes per session. This can be rucking, hiking, or functional fitness. Consistency with dynamic movement matters more than duration.

Can a weighted vest help me lose weight?

Yes, by raising energy expenditure during walks or workouts. Pair it with a sensible diet for fat loss.

Can RUKVEST help with bone health?

Yes - when combined with dynamic exercise. Research shows weight-bearing exercise with 10% body weight (like rucking or hiking) increases bone-building stimulus compared to unweighted activity. RUKVEST's even weight distribution makes it ideal for this type of functional exercise.

Does a weighted vest improve bone density?

Used with impact and resistance training, plus adequate protein, calcium, and vitamin D, a weight vest can help maintain bone health.

Is a weighted vest safe for my joints or back?

Yes when used properly: keep loads moderate, fit it snugly, move with good form, and avoid use during active injury.

Is RUKVEST good for perimenopause?

Yes. RUKVEST is designed for women managing bone and overall health during perimenopause. The even weight distribution promotes natural posture. For best results, combine with dynamic exercise like hiking, body weight exercises, or strength training. Start with 5-10% of your body weight.

How much weight should I carry during perimenopause if I'm new to weighted vests?

If you've been sedentary: Start with 5% of your body weight (typically 2.5-4kg for most women). If you're already exercising: Start with 10% of your body weight (typically 5-7kg). For example: A 70kg woman would start with 3.5kg-7kg depending on fitness level and current activity.

How should a weighted vest fit?

Snug but not restrictive, with even front–back load. No bouncing or shoulder pressure points.

What are the best exercises to do with a weighted vest?

Brisk walking or hiking, stair climbs, squats, lunges, step-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, and short hill sprints.
